The owners of Little D’Arcy Island commissioned this piece. They sailed me to the island where I stayed three weeks in a tent watching the orcas.

I learned from a marine biologist who also stayed on the island that certain pods of orcas prey on fish and that other pods hunt the harbor seal. I was awakened at five-thirty one morning to hear the harbor seals rushing out of the water and slapping their tails to announce to the rest of the seal colony that the whales were coming through the area.

I called this piece "Dilemma Off Little D’Arcy" because of this life and death struggle just off the shore of my friends’ island.
