For my first sculpture I chose to do an animal that I had heard many stories of as a young girl.  My father was stationed in Alaska right at the beginning of my parents’ marriage. He told me that the bears would invade some of the army camps.

The artist who told me I was a sculptor was experimenting with patinas and I was very intrigued with the chemicals he used to obtain the white patina. So I chose as my first piece the polar bear because I would be able to use unique patinas as well as portray the stories that my father had told.
